Endocrine Surgery

The endocrine system is an elaborate system of glands located throughout the body. These small glands are responsible for many aspects of your health, including metabolism, blood pressure, sexual function, and mood.

When any of these glands is affected by disease, such as cancer, treatment may include endocrine surgery, which is the surgical removal of all or part of a diseased gland. At NGPG, we offer a full spectrum of endocrine surgery procedures to treat health issues and get you back to better health.

The Endocrine System

While the endocrine system isn’t as well-known as other systems in the body, it plays a major role in keeping it functioning. Its primary responsibility is releasing hormones that control your metabolism, electrolyte balance, body temperature, blood sugar, growth and development, reproduction, and the sleep/wake cycle, among other functions.

The endocrine system contains glands, organs, and tissues. The glands of the endocrine system include the pineal gland, pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, and adrenal glands, while the organs include the hypothalamus, ovaries, testes, and pancreas. Body fat is also considered part of the endocrine system.

Conditions We Treat

Any of the glands, organs, or tissues in the endocrine system can be affected by disease. Endocrine surgery may be used to treat:

  • Adrenal gland disorder

  • Cushing syndrome
  • Goiter

  • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Hyperthyroidism

  • Thyroid disease
  • Thyroid nodules

This list is not exhaustive—we also offer diagnosis, treatment, and management of other endocrine system diseases and disorders.

Procedures We Offer

There are as many different types of endocrine surgery as there are health issues affecting the endocrine system. Our surgeons offer a full spectrum of procedures, including:

  • Adrenalectomy
  • Insulinoma enucleation
  • Lymphadenectomy
  • Neck dissection
  • Pancreatectomy
  • Pancreatic enucleation
  • Parathyroid surgery
  • Thyroidectomy

Most types of endocrine surgery can be performed as either traditional (open) procedures or as minimally invasive procedures. Whenever possible, we offer our patients minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery in some cases. This type of less-invasive procedure provides many benefits, including reduced bleeding, less risk of complications, and a quicker recovery.
