Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) proudly welcomes James Barksdale, DPM, to NGPG Podiatry in Gainesville. A former collegiate and professional baseball player, Dr. Barksdale discovered his passion for podiatry while navigating the physical demands of athletics and helping teammates recover from foot and ankle injuries.

“As an athlete, I gained firsthand experience with the toll foot and ankle injuries can take on mobility and overall well-being,” said Dr. Barksdale. “That experience inspired me to pursue a career in podiatry to help others regain mobility and return to the activities they enjoy.”

Dr. Barksdale grew up in Florence, Alabama, and stayed close to home to play in the outfield for the University of North Alabama. The Pittsburgh Pirates took him in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, and he played three seasons in the minor leagues. After hanging up his cleats, Dr. Barksdale earned his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Credentials at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in New York City.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Barksdale enjoys spending time with his wife and their two huskies, Valek and Melek. He is an avid golfer, rock climber and snowboarder – hitting the slopes in Colorado and Pennsylvania or on his property in Tennessee during rare snow days. “I’m thrilled to be part of the top-notch team at NGPG and Northeast Georgia Health System,” said Dr. Barksdale. “My family and I are excited to call Northeast Georgia home and look forward to becoming part of this wonderful community.”

Dr. Barksdale is now accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, visit ngpg.org/barksdale or call 770-219-9320.
